SORRY, FRANCOPHILES: THE LEMAIRE DESIGNERS CONFIRM WE SHOULD STOP TRYING TO DRESS "FRENCH"

As you're hopefully aware, Lemaire's second collaboration with Uniqlo hit stores on Friday, and once again, design duo Christophe Lemaire and Sarah-Linh Tran appealed to the aspiring French minimalist in all of us with a range of lightweight, preppy knits and sleek linens inspired by summer vacation and French new wave cinema.
To celebrate their deuxième collection launch, the enviably chic couple held court at the Uniqlo store in Paris's Marais neighborhood on Thursday night, just 24 hours after presenting their own fall 2016 collection as part of Paris Fashion Week (which is going on right now if you guys didn't know). Before buying just about all that was left in stock at the private shopping event, we chatted with the designers-slash-Yeezy fans about what inspires their untouchably cool aesthetic, the secret to that specifically French insouciant way of wearing casual clothes — and why we Americans shouldn't bother trying to attain it — and the very unique way they instructed the models to walk at their runway show. Read on for their responses, which we suggest trying to read with a French accent.
Aside from it being for spring weather rather than fall weather, how did the preparation for this collection differ from the first one?
Christophe Lemaire: Summer is not easy because you just want good shirts, good pants. We started from the style of our summer vacation. Very much inspired by some new age movies, some French '60s movies. This feeling of stylish but very easy, effortless, so it was very much about looking for good textures of cotton. Oxfords, washed poplins. And the colors were very much inspired by these specific movies. These burnt yellows.
Sarah-Linh Tran: Faded colors.
What inspires your design process in general? Is it a lot of movies and things like that, or do you think about what you and the people you know want to wear?
CL: Both. We start from reality because we are interested in creating good clothes. We're interested in the intimate relationship we have with clothes. So it starts from very concrete things: what we need everyday to wear, what we'd like to have in our wardrobes, the functionality of it, how to improve the comfort. But then you need to bring a little bit of a dream. So that's always the balance: between dream and reality.
Do you feel that the clothes you design are very specifically French-inspired? I feel like the French — and your brand specifically — have a way of doing casual clothes in a very chic way that you don't see anywhere else.
ST: The French are really thoughtless and chic at the same time. They never do too much. And I think they have this good balance of dressing. It's more about the personality and the gesture and the intelligence, for example, than having the proper clothes at the right time. So it's good if you feel that.
So it's about thinking less?
CL: And I think really good design is very difficult to capture. That's why it's very difficult to be.... To kind of pretend being someone that you aren't. And I think it's the roots [of the French]. The cultural roots are important. But we're not very conscious of that.

4 Popular Men’s Hairstyle Trends To Try Now

1. Contemporary Quiffs

From ducktails to King sized quiffs the pompadour has maintained its popularity throughout the ages due to its versatility. The style suits all face shapes and all ages and can be easily modernised. Justin Timberlake and David Beckman are both fans of the reworked, contemporary quiff. For a slick result spray Kérastase Laque Couture hairspray over the hair. It will hold even the most outrageous quiff in place.

This season the look has been refined with men are opting for contrast between the scalp exposing sides and back, and volume on top. Alternatively, if you want to stay true to the Rockabilly nature of this look ask your hairdresser to keep some length on the back and sides. If you have fine hair then try Toni &Guy Label M Volume Foam. The product will enhance the hair without weighing it down and is perfect for those seeking an extra boost.

2. Fades

The Fade is defined by the gradual increase of hair length from the neck to the crown. It is low maintenance but finding a skilled barber is essential for achieving this style. Comb over fades are gaining popularity as side parts make a comeback but by far the most popular fade of the season is the lower fade. The low fade removes weight but still retains the clean cut look. Try Kevin Murphy’s Smooth Again leave-in treatment for a glossy, touchable finish without the grease. For those wanting a little more body to work with keep some length at the top just like Adam Levine, Brad Pitt and Zayn Malik. These men are all fans of the fade but prefer the added length to play around with, creating a messed up look full of body and texture.

3. Buns

If you prefer longer locks then don’t fret because the ever popular Jared Leto man bun is still on-trend. In fact, the look refuses to go away. The style is bohemian and the less effort you put into this look the sexier it is. Men with both straight and curly hair can wear this look; however, if you prefer a smoother finish start by passing a GHD Platinum Styler through your hair first. This style has been on the radar for a while now so if you are already a top knot-devotee then perhaps the undercut/knot fusion is the change you need this season. To give an edge to your buns, try the undercut man bun look where the hair is kept long at the top of the head while the rest is clipped short.

4. Undercut

The edgy alternative is to lose the bun and choose an undercut while still keeping length on top. This look takes its roots from the pompadour but the quiff is subtle compared to its traditional brother. To keep everything in its place try Kiehl’s Creative Cream Wax to mould the lengthy ends into your desired shape.

ZAC POSEN MAKES AN IMPORTANT STATEMENT BY CASTING MODELS OF COLOR ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY

The fight for more diversity on Fashion Week runways, led by former modelBethann Hardison and voiced by many others, has been a long one; and year after year, the improvements made are marginal at best. Maybe a designer casts a couple of non-white models instead of zero.
But this season, with some exceptions of course, we've noticed an actual change. The mostly black casting — including OG supermodels Naomi Campbell and Veronica Webb — was probably the best thing about Kanye West's Yeezy Season 3 show, and Rihanna, Sophie Theallet and Chromat's Becca McCharen have all contributed to an increase in non-white models on the runways at New York Fashion Week. But the strongest statement so far was made by Zac Posen, whose model lineup on Monday night was comprised almost entirely of gorgeous models of color like Aya Jones, Aamito Lagum, Cindy Bruna, Riley Montana and Grace Bol.
Interestingly, the show was cast by Maida & Rami, an agency that has been criticized in the past for the lack of diversity in its model choices on big name runways like Jil Sander, Christian Dior and Raf Simons.
Posen was inspired by Princess Elizabeth of Toro, a Ugandan lawyer who became the first East African woman to be admitted to the English bar. She was also a successful model and covered American Vogue in 1968, and was briefly the foreign minister of Uganda in the 1970s. Black or white, she was an accomplished and beautiful woman — a perfect point of inspiration for a fashion designer. In his show notes, Posen noted her "kind nature, stunning appearance and exceptional intellect."

Otherwise, there was no mention of the casting decision — just an explanation of the "study of couture geometrics of the 1930's" that was Posen's starting point for the clothes, made up of bias-cut dresses in embroidered cotton, and jewel tones with grays and saturated blues mixed in. The collection was lovely and, thanks to Posen's use of more lightweight fabrics in looser silhouettes, more casual than last season's eveningwear — but no less timeless.
The casting part of the equation felt more like a statement than a publicity stunt, and we hope it inspires Posen's fellow designers to follow suit. Non-white models are out there, and they deserve to be cast. And one could argue that as Fashion Week becomes more consumer-facing, it's even more important for a more diverse assortment of races, ages and body types to be represented.

PRINTS CHARMING: BLOOM BOOM

Prints Charming: bloom boom
Whether you’re a uniform kinda gal or a style chameleon, prints can be real daunting. Thus, it comes as no surprise that their colorfully loud presence can seem – at first – overwhelming. But, we simply can’t deny the fact that floral & tropical patterns are (basically) the only way to declare that we are embracing the sunny season.  Therefore, in order to incorporate bloomy prints in our wardrobe like a legit lady, let’s take cues from discreet Caroline Issa and flamboyant Susie Bubble. These ladies have one thing in common: they will show you how to add a fresh edge to your outfit, while still setting a ladylike standard – major props.
In order to decode the best street style moments – including one or multiple flowery prints, we must keep in mind that some of us have a normal morning commute. So, here are some sartorial options for gals who don’t have a chauffeur (yet): polish a profesh look with a flirty tropical print tote or girly up your street wear with a feminine yet cool floral flat form sandal. That being clarified, we still plan on flaunting our prettiest looks with the confidence of a high-profile magazine editor or an awfully influential blogger. Ladies, start peeling off those layers and don’t forget to enhance your ankles and wrists with flowered accoutrements.

MAD ABOUT HUE: ROSE GOLD

MAD ABOUT HUE: ROSE GOLD
We’re wearing rose-tinted glasses (and everything looks amazing!)
It’s the name of the flower with the sweetest scent, the colour of ballet slippers, and our current obsession. And we’re not the only ones: the fashion world en masse has fallen in love with this hue. It’s been making appearances on the runways (at BCBG Max Azria andChloé for example) and in so much good street style (like right here, here, here and here) that it’s gone from feeling oh-so-girly to ever-so-modern. A pretty neat trick, if you ask us. Was it all those amazing pink coats we saw during the last few fashion weeks? Was it the fact that rose gold jewelry is having a definite moment? Probably! But whatever the reason, we’re definitely inspired. The plan? Get as much of this pretty pink hue into our spring and summer looks as possible. Pink and light denim is a winning combination (add a Breton-striped shirt in there for a clean, cool French-girl vibe) or play around with contrast and pair a soft, light pink with something tough and dark, like a moto jacket. We’ll definitely be playing to pink’s ethereality by pairing it with whites, creams, and light greys for a current yet romantic feel. But the made-in-heaven pairing we’re most excited about? Pink and gold! Equal parts hard and soft, sweet and tough. Just like the flower: beautiful and delicate with remarkable strength.

SHOUT OUT: PRIDE WORLDWIDE

SHOUT OUT: PRIDE WORLDWIDE
Today, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favour of same-sex marriage in all 50 states. The first Pride March was 45 years ago: That very first event commemorating the Stonewall riots made a huge statement just by being gay in public. Since then, Pride celebrations have popped up from Istanbul to Greenland to Uganda. Some of our favourite festivals have already taken place this year (like Sao Paulo, Los Angeles and Boston) but there’s lots of awesome events to partake in this summer.  Here are our top 5 picks to celebrate pride:

pride

NEW YORK CITY
The original! The March takes places on June 28th, but events including The Rally, Family Night and lots of parties, take place all week.
TORONTO
Pride Toronto is a whopping 10 days long, and one of the biggest in the world. Besides the parade you’ll want to catch John Waters talk, and Montreal performer Mado do her thing.
SAN FRANCISCO
Celebrate diversity in a city with deep-rooted LGBT community. With 23 stages and lots of scantily clad folks…because public nudity is still legal during festivals ;)
BERLIN
Christopher Street Day in Berlin features a week’s worth of eclectic programming and a very well-attended parade. Prost!
AMSTERDAM
Get set for street parties, club circuit parties, party-parties: it’s all there in Amsterdam. This year’s parade takes place along the canal in late July.

FINAL TOUCH: TOP NOTCH HIGH TOPS

FINAL TOUCH: TOP NOTCH HIGH TOPS
A new season is upon us. Here’s how to own it.
As summer gives way to fall, some wardrobe decisions have to be made. The new season demands more, and newer layers, as you not only gird yourself for crisp autumn weather but reassert your sense of style, adopt a different look, perhaps, and hatch a sartorial plan for the inevitable social engagements to come. Time, then, to take stock of what you have, and what you need, to tackle whatever the season can possibly throw at you.
Events will still lure you out of doors from time to time–a patio brunch date here, a backyard cookout there–but with shorter days and fresher air you most certainly want your layer game on point. A thin, sharp jacket, worn on top of long, fitted tees, and, if necessary, thin sweaters and pullovers, is just a common sense, slam dunk move. Remove, add on, as you see fit, and as temps rise or fall. Natch.
Pants-wise, fall calls for the cuffed skinny trousers look, obviously. Why obviously? Because high tops are on trend, and perfect for the season. Black high tops, with a round toe and classic pull tab, need to be properly shown off with a neutral-colored pair of trousers or denims. Hence the fashionable cuffs. Put it all together and this is how you kick-start that fall wardrobe and seamlessly glide from one season to the next.

Store of the Week: Bel Fiore Bridal in Marietta, Georgia

Celebrating its 10-year anniversary, Bel Fiore Bridal prides itself, and their success, on the personal relationships formed with brides. By treating and caring for each bride like she is part of the family, they are able to provide their customers with a unique experience, and help them find the best wedding dress style possible.
 BFB4-web
We asked the ladies of Bel Fiore Bridal all about their Marietta bridal shop and what’s currently trending in the Georgia bridal market:
What wedding dress trends are hot right now in your area?
Brides are getting on board with the #teamexit trend! They’re loving wedding dresses with pretty backs, whether it’s a sheer illusion back, or a plunging low back.
What’s the number one thing your brides are asking for?
Lace has been our most asked-for detail on a wedding dress recently. Lace is great because it conveys “classic bride” and can bring about a vintage feel, but still be very updated, modern and sexy. Straps are also on the rise and will probably continue to be, which is great because not everyone wants strapless!
How do you make the bride’s experience memorable?
We believe that being engaged is one of the most exciting times, so wedding dress shopping should be equally as exciting! We have a fitting room prepared especially for each bride and her  bridal party, complete with a personalized welcome sign and mirrors that she won’t have to share with anyone else. Making the experience personal is a big way we try to make sure each bride feels special, and gets the attention she deserves.
What’s the most surprising request you’ve ever gotten from a bride?
Some brides want to stand out from the crowd and express their individuality.  We had one bride dye her wedding dress purple ombre.  Another bride requested our seamstress add black lace accents all over a gown.  They both came out looking fabulous!
What’s your favorite wedding story from one of your brides?
It’s hard to choose favorites, but we once helped a military bride who was planning her wedding in 10 days!  Her fiancé had just returned from boot camp and proposed to her, and they didn’t have a moment to spare. We found her perfect wedding dress, and as soon as she put it on we all knew this was the dress for her. Everyone’s eyes (including ours) filled with tears!
What is the best advice you would give a bride as she is shopping for her wedding gown?
Bring an excited attitude! You get to pick out the prettiest dress you’ll ever wear, and what is more exciting than that?  Also, remember to eat and drink, because shopping with low blood sugar is no fun. Bridal shopping is an experience all in itself and for once in your life, it’s all about you.  You’ll want to enjoy this special time!

9 Things to Consider When Choosing a Wedding Venue

Next to your wedding dress, choosing a wedding venue is one of the more important – and most expensive – wedding decisions you will make. Here are a few things to consider before booking your wedding venue.
1. Budget
Dancing the night away doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. Simply start with a budget in mind and be open to options. For example, you can save money on multiple rental fees if you host your wedding and reception at the same place. (Keep in mind that a traditional religious ceremony may have to take place in a church; be sure to ask up front.) You also may want to consider getting married off-season. Many wedding venues offer discounts to brides and grooms who skip the summer reception.
2. Size
Make sure the venue’s size matches your guest list. A too-big venue means wasted space – and wasted money. On the flip side, a too-small venue will create overcrowding. Ask the event coordinator about the venue’s capacity number and aim to be just slightly under the capacity limit.
3. Style
Your wedding venue should match your personality. If you’re more traditional, go with a more traditional option, like a ballroom or reception hall. If you’re more creative, you may want to consider something out-of-the-box like the following:
    • A Bridge: Yes, you heard it right. The U.S. is filled with beautiful (and no-longer-in-service) wooden bridges set atop babbling brooks and lush lands. If you’re considering an outdoor celebration, why not make the most of these retired rustics? (Just make sure to call your city’s Division of Public Services for permission first.)
    • A Museum: Museums offer bold atriums and vast halls that can comfortably accommodate hundreds. Find a museum that matches your unique style, and check the museum’s website for details on rental policies.
    • A Vineyard: In addition to serving (you guessed it) great wine, vineyards offer beautiful vistas of rolling, grape-accented hills. They’re the perfect spot to make memories with your friends and family.
    • A Zoo: Lions, tigers and bears – oh, my! Zoos are a wonderfully unique place to celebrate your union. (As long as you don’t mind the occasional roar of a lion during the toast.) They’re naturally designed to offer open spaces, shade areas, and interesting conversations throughout the night.
4. Season
Just like style, you probably have a season that best matches your personality. If you and yours are free-spirited, consider an outdoor celebration during the late spring, early summer months. (Make sure to have an indoor back-up bad weather plan.) If you’re more traditional, consider an indoor winter wedding.
5. Food Quality
If your venue of choice provides in-house catering, sample their menu before paying the facility deposit. If you’re employing an off-site caterer, ask your venue to provide detailed information on how it handles food setup, presentation and service. You’ll also want to make sure your caterer can use the venue’s kitchen facilities.
6. Customer Service
Even the most perfect of places can be soured by bad service. If you’re skeptical about the venue’s response times, enthusiasm or customer service, trust your gut and move on to another venue.
7. Rules and Regulations
Venues have strict policies regarding alcohol, smoking and noise. If you want to serve alcohol at your reception, make sure your venue is licensed to serve. Also, make sure guests are aware of where they can and cannot smoke.
8. Accessibility
If seniors or individuals with disabilities are on your guest list, make sure your venue offers accommodations that meet their needs.
9. Fine Print
Don’t forget to get a confirmation of the cost, date, time and additional details in your final contract. Don’t sign your name on the dotted line until you fully understand what’s included and excluded.

What We’re Packing For Newport Folk Festival

Post image for What We’re Packing For Newport Folk Festival

Come Thursday, Natalie and I will be headed north to Rhode Island for Newport Folk Festival. The last time I had to pack for a festival seems like ages ago. SXSW back in March was the last major festival I attended, so I’m excited to get my suitcase back out for another trip! I’ve never been to this fest, or Rhode Island for that matter, so all new experiences are on the horizon. We’ll be exploring the town, hanging out with Free People Providence, and enjoying the music. Situated against Newport Harbor, I’ve heard you never run out of pretty things to feast your eyes on while dancing and moving about the festival grounds. Keep an eye out for us, as we’ll be capturing all of our favorite festival looks on Friday! As for our wardrobes, summer layering is what we have in mind. Shorts, tanks and tees during the day, but still remembering a sweater to cozy up with in the evening. Here’s what we’re taking with us:
